This weather is wild the rain the wind and the sea all equally as uncontrollable as each other. I took my days first step near Leigh harbour. There was a very nice track that had been littered with debris from the trees above i followed it through the bush just above the shoreline, after that I went coastal and begun clambering over the rocks Avoiding the ones covered in a red slime as they are very slippery.
I reached the end of the rocks and stepped onto a nice Sandy beach at the opposite end was a cliff with only one root hanging down to climb.
I began to climb knowing that if I fell it was more than likely to my death.
I followed a short road then Cut through some farmland and dropped back down onto the violent coast! The sea was exploding off the rocks spraying everything in a salty mist onwards I went around the table rocks until I reached an iron ladder.
I stood there and looked across at the next bit of coastline. F#%K THAT….
I went up the ladder and traversed the cliff tops. I found myself having to go slightly inland through some native bush. I was crashing though when I came across a gravel track that looked like it went towards goat Island. I pranced along in the bush happily sheltered from the wind.
As I approached Goat Island marine reserve I cut back out onto rocks and slowly worked my way around towards the Main Beach I was taking a hammering constantly being knocked about by the cold waves!
I bounced from rock to rock and suddenly there are no more rocks! Just water! I waited for the set and then took the plunge! I clung onto the cliff face pulling myself up into an overhanging cave. the sea exploded around me forcing me back into the small cave my heart was racing! Timing was essential. I raced forward and scrambled up the outside of the Cave and onto the next ledge! Continuing climbing around the next corner and onto the beach!
At this point I followed a fence line up the side of a very high cliff. Stoping briefly to look back on goat island glad to still be in one piece. I put my jacket on and walked all the way up to the top. The wind was scary bending the trees to the point where they would crack and creek. I stood there watching a large tree twist and turn. There was a very loud crack and I saw was a whole lot of green coming towards me. I just ran. I was swiped off my feet and squashed by the top of the tree! Adrenaline was flowing through my body! I got up, brushed myself off and made my way down the hills to Pakiri Beach.
I trudged along the beach being blasted by the sand taking a few moments to take in the beauty of the storm before arriving in Pakiri.
